The Fullmetal Alchemist theatrical feature, The Conqueror of Shamballa, takes place two years after the last episode of the popular broadcast series. Edward Elric has been transported to Earth and is living in Weimar-era Munich with Alphonse Heiderich, a young engineer who reminds him of Al. This Alphonse is working for the Thule Society, a group of Aryan fanatics who hope to cross dimensions to the world they call Shambala and acquire weapons that will ensure a German victory in the next war. Back in the world where the broadcast series took place, a restored Alphonse Elric searches for a way to bring Ed back. A combination of science and alchemy finally reunites the brothers--with unexpected consequences. Although the film is an exciting adventure that includes many of the familiar characters, viewers who haven't watched the TV series may have trouble sorting out who's who and what's where. Sadly, The Conqueror of Shamballa marks the end of director Seiji Mizushima's and screenwriter Shou Aikawa's work with the Elric brothers: together, they preserved the essence of Hiromu Arakawa's winning characters while adapting them to a new medium. Arakawa is continuing the manga, so fans may one day see further animated adventures of Ed and Al.(Rated PG: violence, grotesque imagery, brief nudity, alcohol and tobacco use) --Charles Solomon

Average Rating: out of 5 stars

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - Awful! I am so disappointed with this movie. I loved the anime series, but the movie is boring, uninteresting and confusing.
First of all, sorry for my English, sometimes it's hard to express myself in other than my first language (Portuguese).

I loved the anime series and had great expectations about this movie, but had no fun at all watching it. Old clichès and an awful plot, plus the stupid ending, so meaningless. The movie was just boring and didn't have the magic the series had, that attracted millions. Some major scenes that should be more sentimental and emotional, were simply badly done.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Conqueror of Shamballa, the end of a milestone.
I watched the last dvd from the Fullmetal Alchemist series a little while ago with my sister, and I got the movie Conqueror of Shamballa, it was incredible. The movie had quite a different feel to it from the series, a very dream-like ending to a wonderful series. The limited edition for the movie has a really cool documentary on the warehouse which the directors pieced together the film. There's a second disk with more features that I would like to watch today. The set is like a hardcover book, ... Read More

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Amazing ending to the series
Wow, this was an amazing conclusion to the astronomical series. I'll stop using big words now =) Anyway, If you've seen the series, you definitely have to get this. And for 30 dollars for a NEW one (at least right now), I would get the special edition. You get nice art card things (that are not attached to the booklet, so I framed them and are scattered in my room) and there's a small booklet that has sketches of the characters, and there's just so much more stuff! Why are you still reading ... Read More
