Amazon.com Product Description:
A great companion on the road, the Acer TravelMate TM8210-6038 provides a practical, affordable mobile solution for home office workers on the go and small to medium-sized businesses. This affordable notebook PC is powered by Intel's powerful Core 2 Duo processor, which offers a 20 percent performance boost over its predecessor while using 28 percent less power--so you get the benefit of a powerful dual-core PC plus all the benefits of mobility. The dual-execution core T7400 Core 2 Duo processor provides an optimized, multi-threaded architecture for improved gaming and multit-asking performance, and it features a 2.16 GHz speed, lightning quick 667 MHz system bus, and massive 4 MB L2 cache.
This TravelMate is one of the first Acer notebooks to offer high-definition Blu-ray Disc capability, which supports full 1080p HD video as well as up to 5.1 discrete channels of uncompressed digital audio. The Blu-ray system is backwards-compatible with standard DVDs and CDs, enabling you to enjoy your digital library for years to come.
It provides seamless wireless and wired communication (with ultra-fast Gigabit Ethernet) and an integrated 1.3-megapixel Acer OrbiCam positioned on top of the LCD panel with a 225-degree rotation. Other hardware features include a widescreen 15.4-inch LCD panel, 160 GB hard drive, 2 GB of installed RAM (2 GB max), full tri-mode 802.11a/b/g wireless capability, ATI Radeon Xpress X1600 video card with 256 MB of dedicated video RAM, Bluetooth wireless connectivity, and Windows XP Professional operating system. This is Windows Vista capable PC, and it's also Windows Vista Premium ready.
The Basics
- Hard Drive: You'll be able to store large libraries of digital audio, video, and photos on the 160 GB hard drive (5400 RPM). This Serial ATA (SATA) hard drive also quickens the pace with a higher speed transfer of data--akin to FireWire and USB 2.0. You'll also be able to store a good-sized digital audio library. Acer's patented DASP--or Disc Anti-Shock Protection system--reduces the impact of knocks and bumps.
- Processor: The Intel Core 2 Duo T7400 processor has a 2.16 GHz processor speed, super-fast 667 MHz front-side bus (FSB), and an enormous 4 MB L2 cache. (An L2, or secondary, cache temporarily stores data; and a larger L2 cache can help speed up your system's performance. The FSB carries data between the CPU and RAM, and a faster front-side bus will deliver better overall performance.)
The Intel Core 2 Duo processor has two computational execution cores in a single processor, providing greater system response when running multi-threaded applications simultaneously with no significant increase in power consumption. It's optimized for multitasking and is ready to support the Microsoft Windows Vista operating system. It can simultaneously run multiple demanding applications--such as graphics-intensive games or serious number-crunching business productivity applications--while downloading music or running virus-scanning security programs in the background. Some of the advanced Intel innovations of the Core 2 Duo processor include:- Smart Memory Access: Improves system performance by hiding memory latency, thus optimizing the use of available computer data bandwidth to provide data to the processor when and where it is needed.
- Advanced Digital Media Boost: Effectively doubles the execution speed for instructions used widely in multimedia and graphics applications.
- Dynamic Power Coordination: Coordinates Enhanced Intel SpeedStep Technology and idle power-management state (C-states) transitions independently per core to help save power.
- Deeper Sleep with Dynamic Cache Sizing: Saves power by flushing cache data to system memory during periods of inactivity to lower CPU voltage.
- Memory: The 2 GB of built-in memory (PC4200, DDR2 SDRAM) is an excellent start for power users, and it offers a very fast 533 MHz speed. It has two memory slots, enabling you to add up to 4 GB of RAM for worry-free handling graphics-intensive presentations and multiple open business productivity applications.
- CD/DVD Drive: This TravelMate is one of AcerÕs first Blu-ray Disc enabled notebooks. It's capable of playing back Blu-ray Disc movies in stunning clarity, as well as playing your current library of purchased and burned disc content. It's also capable of burning HD Camcorder content in its original 1080 high-definition resolution can store a massive amount of data on a single disc (25 GB single layer disc to 50 GB on a double layer disc). This multi-format disc drive can write single- and double-layer Blu-ray discs (BD-R/RW SL and BD-R/RW DL) at 1x speeds. It can also write a variety of disc formats at the following speeds: 8x CD-R/RW, 8x DVD-R/+R, 4x DVD-RW/+RW, 2.4x DVD+R DL, 2x DVD-R DL, and 5x DVD-RAM.
- Keyboard & Mouse: The 88-key keyboard offers an inverted T cursor layout, embedded numeric keypad, hotkey controls, international language support, 2.5mm minimum key travel. The touchpad has a four-way integrated scroll button.
The 15.4-inch TFT LCD screen has a 1680 x 1050-pixel resolution and can display up to 16.7 million colors. Video is powered by ATIÕs Mobility Radeon X1600 video/graphics card (with 256 MB of dedicated video RAM), which deliver high-performance 3D graphics, enhanced video playback quality, and extended battery life. A 90-nanometer process and hyper-efficient 3D architecture deliver supercharged graphics performance, enhanced by ultra-threaded operations and a new Ring-Bus memory controller.
Connectivity and Expansion Slots
This Acer notebook features an integrated PRO/Wireless 3945ABG wireless LAN that's compatible with 802.11b/g networks (commonly found in home routers and wi-fi hotspots) as well as 802.11a networks (which has a higher throughput, but more limited range--great for closed office environments). It also offers Acer's SignalUp technology for enhanced antenna efficiency. The integrated Bluetooth 2.0 wireless connectivity makes it easy to synchronize and transfer data between your PC and your PDA or cell phone, connecting to Bluetooth-enabled printers, make calls using VoIP programs with a Bluetooth headset, and more.

- All it is made out to be and more!I have this laptop several weeks now and I read the negative reviews on it. I have to say that after installing all my own software and having used it intensly for the last couple of weeks it has preformed really well. I had an acer Ferrari 4000 which broke down and acer after 14 weeks trying to repair it eventually gave in to giveing me cash so I went for the 8210 which I got for a song. Of course there were the initial glitches which I thing one gets with all new computers as all the software ... Read More

- Trash, Trash, TrashHi,
I give this 1 star, purely for the looks, I like carbon fiber.
This is NOT a great travel companion, It is about my 5th notebook owned and by far the worst (although the most expensive.
Inadequate cooling, I sit it on a cooling pad and it still has overheat issues.
Heat outlet is right next to your mouse hand and is HOT HOT HOT.
Inlets are small and not located where the fans on most cooling pads are
Acer support is terrible, when you call ... Read More

- DO NOT BUY THIS (BETA) NOTEBOOKI have been a computer/network support engineer for approx 14 years so I am no novice to computers. The Acer TM 8210 is the WORST experience I have ever had in computers period. Acer should be charged for selling such garbage. All versions of the Acer VCM (bluetooth/VoIP) software fail constantly. The Bluetooth phone is a waste of time - 6 feet away and it drops calls or the static becomes overwhelmingly unbearable. It is SLOW SLOW SLOW even though it has 2 GB of memory and not many applications installed. ... Read More

- Amazing speed plus Blu-ray! Top of the LineI had been saving for a year, and towards the end of my savings period, I found this laptop and researched it as much as I could. I really wanted a fast computer, at least a T7400 Core2Duo and I couldn't find any others with a 256MB video card and 15.4 inch widescreen with 1680x1050 display resolution. The Blu-ray is a amazing plus. Watching movies in Blu-Ray is incredible, even on the screen. I am tempted to bring my laptop to Best Buy and plug it into a HDTV there and see how good it looks on the big screen, ... Read More
